Checkers (also known as Draughts) is a classic two-player board game played on an 8×8 checkerboard with 12 dark pieces and 12 light pieces. Players move diagonally forward, capturing opponent pieces by jumping over them. When a piece reaches the opposite side, it becomes a "King" and gains the ability to move and capture backward. The goal is to capture all of the opponent's pieces or block them from making any legal move. This web version features a clean 2D, flat-vector design with brightly colored pieces and a high-contrast board, simple click-to-move controls, and both single-player (vs AI) and two-player modes. No registration or download is needed – just open the webpage and start playing.

Benefits for Seniors

Keeps the mind active – Checkers requires forward planning, pattern recognition, and tactical thinking, which helps maintain cognitive function and may reduce the risk of dementia.

Enhances decision-making skills – Each move involves trade-offs and consequences, training the brain to evaluate options quickly and logically.

Promotes social interaction – The two-player mode encourages playing with family, friends, or caregivers, reducing loneliness and creating shared enjoyment.

Gentle and accessible – Only light mouse clicks or touch inputs are needed; no physical exertion, making it suitable for seniors with limited mobility or arthritis.

Builds patience and resilience – Learning from losses and trying again fosters a positive attitude and emotional regulation.

No time pressure – The game is fully self-paced; players can take as long as they need to think, making it ideal for a relaxed mental workout.
